Reflections on Artifact Analysis usage
Praise - was expressed by not giving negative statements about the overall concept of the project. Upon reflection, I don't think this particular group ventures into the Downtown area of Morgantown, as they did not seem enthusiastic about cleaning up the area.
Questions - Not having read my post and the text that went along with photos, and after my verbal presentation, there was a question about what the focus would be - the cleanliness of the sidewalks (they said streets) or the homeless problem.
One person asked if I had interviewed Casey and what he thought about the sidewalks.
Polish - I will have to make it clear from the start that the focus of the narrative is to see clean and attractive sidewalks for anyone walking in Morgantown. This includes both absence of trash and stains on the sidewalks as well as absence of vagrants, and a continuation of the flower baskets and other beautification projects, and further enhancement of these things. I will have to make clear through my artifacts and text that the emphasis is on the aesthetics of Downtown area and that I will not be attempting to solve the vagrant/homeless problem per se. I will be advocating relocating the problem at the least.
I explained one conversation I had with Casey, and plan to include some aspects of that conversation in the narrative, as well as to further interview Casey to get his input on the topic. Perhaps a video interview would be best for this, and he could walk me to trouble areas and I could video those as he talked.
Artifact Analysis Usage:
The feature that I think will be most helpful to me from the Artifact Principle is LOCATION.
I envisage a map of the Downtown area that I am focusing on. There could be callouts to the locations on the map that have the pictures of sidewalk problems at a particular location.
What the objects say about the culture and place could also be touched on, i.e., how Downtown Morgantown is used today, in comparison to how it was used in previous times.
